More than 500,000 revelers packed Avenida Litorânea in São Luís (MA), on the Vem Pro Mar circuit, this Sunday, the 18th, the first day of the state's pre-Carnival festivities. The moment with the highest concentration of people was during Bell Marques' performance, which ignited the excitement of those present.
"I'm going to leave this party like a true billboard for Maranhão, for this Carnival. I'm going to tell the four corners of the world that I don't remember ever seeing a Carnival like this. Maranhão deserves all of this," he celebrated.
The passage of the Bahian parade along the coast impacted not only the revelers but also the festival's economy. Street vendors, informal workers, and small merchants occupied strategic areas from early on, benefiting from the continuous flow of people throughout the afternoon and evening.
Wearing a bandana in honor of the guest, Governor Carlos Brandão highlighted the symbolic weight of the occasion: "We are putting on a carnival to go down in history. We are strengthening the carnival in Maranhão, with organization, security, and appreciation of our culture."
